Higher education costs are a prominent concern when seeking out the right program to meet your needs. This section may offer some aid as there are many organizations that have scholarships and grants for those pursuing fire protection engineering. Investing in your future does not have to be intimidating when there are monies available for studying fire protection.
The following tables list scholarships that were known at the time of publication.
SFPE Foundation
The mission of the SFPE Foundation is to advance the science and practice of fire protection engineering internationally by advocating and supporting engineering research, technology transfer and education. The SFPE Foundation was established as the SFPE Educational and Scientific Foundation in 1979. For more than three decades the Foundation has helped to protect people around the globe from the ravages of fire through its work.
Supported by gifts from individuals, corporations, chapters and more, the Foundation sponsors cutting edge research, funds the development of educational resources and programming, and supports individuals and organizations who are working to advance fire protection engineering. The Foundation also has supported several initiatives to protect the heritage of the fire protection engineering profession and to enhance the legacy of previous and current generations of fire protection engineers to future generations. These initiatives have taken the form of grants, scholarships and awards named in honor of different people (http://foundation.sfpe.org/grants/) and the publication of legacy FPE documents on the Foundation’s website (http://foundation.sfpe.org/heritage-documents/).
The Foundation website includes a page dedicated to student research grants (http://foundation.sfpe.org/grant-application-and-evaluation/). This page includes detailed information on the proposal process, eligibility, funding level and evaluation criteria. Requests of up to $25,000 are considered and applications must be submitted by students. This can be a valuable resource to students pursuing research in fire protection engineering.
